Beats, Rhymes & Brunch

Beats, Rhymes & Brunch

The feeling of the Georg’s newly launched Garden Brunch is as fresh in its attitude as it is to the dishes you are served. The title of their menu pretty much sums it up; Beats, Rhymes & Brunch.

Not everyone will get the A Tribe Called Quest reference (their 4th album was titled Beats, Rhymes and Life) or notice Tribe playing on the Georg’s background speakers, but all those who know will not only appreciate this touch of detail, but they’ll respect the Georg that much more.

For anyone who has not been to the Georg, it’s easy to assume that it’s fancy and high-end given it’s drop-dead gorgeous venue and the prestigious reputation of the Georg Jensen brand, but the Georg is as playful as they are personal and professional.  It’s not often enough that we see restaurants who are bold enough to steer away from convention and what’s been done before and can give Beijingers something worth talking about beyond a great bargain or deal. To be able to sip on champagne with my friends at Easter Sunday and enjoying a gorgeous spread of food while listening to the unmistakable beats by Tribe is tough to beat.

Set in their large “Living Room” dining room with tall windows and a glass rooftop to fill the space with sunshine, the space feels like you’re dining al fresco in an outside garden without the inconveniences of dealing with Beijing’s weather issues (let’s be serious people, dining al fresco in Beijing just doesn’t make as much sense as we’d like to admit). With tall trees in every corner, it’s easy to imagine you are in your very own secret garden…that also conveniently happens to serve a dream-brunch-come-true.

Sunday Brunch at the Georg

Garden Brunch at the Georg

A playful mix of generous shared spreads and a hearty 3-course seasonal brunch menu, this will be everything you need on a Sunday to celebrate the past weekend’s shenanigans and what’s ahead next week. Beyond quality time with people you deem worthy of spending your Sunday with, brunch is all about reconvening, recapping and dishing out. Beats, Rhymes & Brunch is a great and appropriate name for the experience.

And while I’ve managed to document everything from the setting to the summary of courses, I’ve intentionally left the final dessert course for you to experience first-hand as a surprise.

“Committed to serving fresh, quality produce, this multi-course brunch menu is designed for you to sit back and relax. From baskets filled with homemade goods from our bakery, to charcuterie; on to the Georg’s creative take on classic brunch dishes like eggs Benedict, as well as the house MAD pancake.”  The concept and name Beats, Rhymes & Brunch comes through perfectly in every aspect of the experience.

2nd Floor View of Happy Brunchers Last Easter Sunday

Available every Sunday from 11:30-15:30, the Garden Brunch is RMB 350 per person +RMB 148 per glass of Champagne (not random bubbles). I recommend booking your table in advance as seating is limited and they quickly book out!

Though this option isn’t available for everyone, I’m going to give my friends a little golden tip – the Georg happens to have one of the best outside terraces. This is the perfect spot to lounge post-brunch-food-coma to soak up the sun and take-in Beijing on a Sunday afternoon. The photo you see is a panorama so don’t be mistaken – it’s not a massive space and comfortably seats about 4-6 people. You can’t dine here (it’s really far from the kitchen) so don’t even ask. But if you ask very nicely, you can order a glass of chilled white wine or a bottle of Champagne if you’re willing, to chill on one of Beijing’s most scenic and enjoyable balconies. Doesn’t get much better than this!
