The Urban Beach: How To Do A Proper City Break

For all those people hellbent on heading to luxury destinations, it’s very likely they haven’t taken the time to appreciate how much beauty the inner city holds. For a lot of us, where finances are limited, a city break is the only option, but far from it being a limited experience, a city break can give you so many luxury conveniences without you actually needing to venture out away from civilization. For a lot of us, when we work in the middle of a city, taking a city break sounds counterintuitive, or a busman’s holiday, but you haven’t been doing it right! Here’s how you do it…

Explore The Local Cuisines

Regardless of the city you’re in, there’s not just the local cuisine that you can take advantage of, but this is an excellent place to start. The great thing about any major city in the world is that there is such a diverse range of food, and cooked by natives to that country, that you can get authentic foreign food in pretty much any large city in the world. Even a restaurant like Illiano Cucina Mediterranea is an authentic Italian place that, believe it or not, is in South Jersey! Pop over to New York City, and as well as the native pizzas and Italian feasts, you’ve got access to Thai, Japanese, Indian food, and the list goes on! Exploring the local cuisine is always the best place to start, but don’t feel like you need to just stick to this.

Travel Around For Cheap

If you choose to fly off season, this is one killing you make in your travel budget, but in opting for a city break, you can make the most of public transport day passes, and experience the city as everybody else does. While it’s not particularly highbrow to explore a city on bus or on the subway, it’s going to be a much cheaper option than a limousine. Besides, public transport is the best way to get around in most cities in the world.

Take Advantage Of The Services

You’re on vacation! So treat it like a vacation. If you have traveled offseason, or you’ve managed to save up a lot of money for your break, why don’t you order room service, indulge in the spa treatments, and eat in a world renowned restaurant? If you head to a city, especially one that you’re used to, you need to put yourself in full on vacation mode. So don’t treat it like another place for you to wander around, make the most of the services at your disposal so you can truly feel like you’re on vacation.

Stay Away From The Cliched “Tourist Traps”

And if you are hoping to make a city break a relaxing one, stay away from the swarms of tourists in the popular areas. This means stay away from museums, guided tours, and so forth. Instead, make your own itinerary, and make it your duty to relax and rejuvenate. Sometimes it doesn’t feel particularly rejuvenating when you are in the middle of a city, but you are clearly going to the wrong places! A city break is one of those things that feels like a well kept secret, but if you do it right, it can feel just as relaxing as a beach vacation!
