Hotel Check In: The Pink Lady of Tampa

Pink Lady of Tampa

The Pink Lady of Tampa is the the iconic Don CeSar hotel which is part of the Loews Hotel Group. The Don CeSar is located only a few miles over the bridge from Tampa to St Petersburg Beach but it takes you back about 90 years in time. The beautiful building was built in 1928 by Thomas Rowe.

It is a Florida real estate gem that has been home to the elite for generations. Picture people like F. Scott Fitzgerald and Al Capone lounging by the pool. Given their storied past the hotel is big on upkeep. They gradually renovate without destroying this iconic building. In fact there will be a new ocean bar opening in February.

The hotel is a mix of Key West meets South Beach, without the crowds. The lobby is full of colonial fans and gorgeous views of the Gulf of Mexico. The property boasts a spa, restaurants, bars and beautiful accommodation, it was a pleasure to explore the hotel.

The resort also sits on some of the best beaches in the country with lush white sands and blue chairs to match the ocean.

Pink Lady of TampaLoews is a small chain and this helps with the consistency of its product; which is top class. There is a feeling of luxury meets warmth. The warmth comes in because the hotel group embraces children. They have always had a brand that is about parents and families making the most out of their vacation. There is always a Loews Kids Club at their resorts and so the Don CeSar has a wonderful place where kids can go star watching at night and take cooking classes in the day. And they go a step further on the kid’s menu. At the Maritana restaurant, they make the same gourmet food for the kids, just smaller portions. Crazy notion right!!!! Not at all. That’s what a kid’s menu was when I grew up. A smaller portion, not a bland menu of mac and cheese or sliders that can never expand a child’s palate .

The rooms are opulent. They are not large but you can easily find a suite for a family. The linens and bedding are one of the most comfortable you will find. The presidential suite with 3 bedrooms, sweeping views in the tower will cost you $3,300 a night, but for a family of 6, it could be an option.

The bar in the lobby has a wonderful relaxing feeling while it’s buzzing at the same time. What I loved was the menu. I never eat at bars. They usually only offer options that are fried and high in carbohydrates. Not here. There was a choice of Ahi Tuna Tartar, Seared Scallops, Crab Cakes and my favorite Steak Tartar, and it was FANATSTIC!

The Hotel is on a stretch of beach where there really is no competition. They own the space in the luxury hotel brand here in St Petes .

The Don CeSar has 2 large swimming pools and a beach that is endless, so even in high season, you never feel claustrophobic. This is a perfect choice from a 2 day get away to a 2 week vacation.

It is close to Tampa International Airport and worth a try. If you love Florida, but don’t like the hustle and bustle of South Beach or Fort Lauderdale, this is the choice for you.
