It’s time to get healthy in the New Year with Meatless Mondays and to help the owner of Punjabi Indian restaurant’s Gireesh Chowdhury has debuted a weekly Meatless Monday Vegan Buffet.
Every Monday night, head to Punjabi for a Variety of Vegan Dishes
With Gireesh being a vegetarian himself, he’s got some of the very best vegetarian and vegan Indian dishes and curries available in this city that are not only meat-free, many of the dishes are oil free and he’s even managed to make some gluten-free bread made from either chickpeas or maize.
“As a vegetarian my whole life, I have always wanted to promote a meat-free lifestyle. With this awesome meatless Mondays initiative taken around the world, we finally have an opportunity to do that in a more accepting manner, as people are more willing to try it. Also, people need to realize that there is more to vegan food than just tofu!” – Gireesh Chowdhury
I think this dish sets Punjabi apart from the rest:
Vegan Eggplant and Tomato Baingan Bharta Dish (RMB 48)
One of my favorite dishes on the menu, Punjabi’s vegan Baingan Bharta is super healthy as there is no added oil whatsoever. Made from charcoal-grilled whole eggplant, they then mash the eggplant and then sauté with tomatoes and add a pinch of turmeric and salt.
“This is a dish I remember from when I was 7 years old when I would always steal from my friend’s ‘packed lunch’ his mom made! It’s completely vegan, and not a drop of oil used in it!” – Gireesh
Spread across two long tables, you can help yourself to any and as much as your stomach can contain of the following: variety of four salads, a lovely Asparagus & Spinach soup, two types of rice, gluten-free bread, mushroom and lentil curry, pot full of chickpeas, Veg Samosas, Broccoli and my ultimate favorite was the Mixed Vegetable BBQ mixed with Veg Seekh Kebab which is basically minced green beans, carrots, potato, onions, radish and cilantro.
Missi Roti: Gluten free bread made with Chickpea flour, salt, onions, coriander, oil brushed on top
Hara Salad
Hara Bhara Kabab: Mixture of Spinach, Kale, Broccoli, Cilantro, Mint, Peas, Asparagus, Minced together and formed into patties, then shallow fried in sunflower oil

Mixed Vegetable BBQ with Veg Seekh Kebab (Green Beans, Carrots, Potato, Onions, Radish, Cilantro)
