Do the airports seem more crowded to you these days? It’s not your imagination. Every time you buckle up and take off you’re going to fly the crowded skies more and more as airline and airports in the US are swamped.
The airline industry set a record for passenger traffic in 2015, according to recently released data by the U.S. Deprartment of Transportation.
Airplanes Are Crowded
In 2015 domestic carriers and foreign airlines serving the United States flew a record 895.5 million passengers on both domestic and international. That’s up 5% from 2014, which set the previous record. You you can see which way the trend is going.
After completing their merger with US Airways in July and reporting combined data, American Airlines set the record last year by carrying more passengers than any other U.S. airline. United dropped to fourth despite increasing its passenger count by 5.5%.
Airports Are Crowded Too
And once again Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International was the busiest U.S. airport, followed by Los Angeles and Chicago O’Hare. The rankings were unchanged from 2014.
What’s the forecast for 2016? Buckle up because once again if you take to the air in 2016 you’ll fly the crowded skies as the industry sees more growth ahead.
