Discover Japan’s Hidden Gems As A Content Creator

Fairfield by Marriott is offering an extraordinary opportunity for passionate travelers to explore Japan beyond its well-trodden tourist paths. The hotel brand has launched a month-long search for its first-ever ‘Road Trip Reporter’. This unique role involves a 30-day journey across Japan’s lesser-known countryside, uncovering cultural and historical treasures while enjoying the comfort and hospitality of Fairfield by Marriott hotels.

John Toomey, Marriott International’s Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Asia Pacific (excluding China), highlights the allure of Japan’s hidden prefectures. “Japan has grown to become one of the world’s most sought-after destinations, but beyond its bustling cities are lesser-known prefectures full of captivating attractions, culinary experiences, and untouched nature,” he explains. This initiative aims to showcase these uncharted adventures and the “Michi-no-Eki” lifestyle, a concept that emphasizes travel and discovery.

The selected ‘Road Trip Reporter’ will document their adventures across 14 prefectures, creating engaging content for Fairfield by Marriott’s Michi-no-Eki project. This includes food and beverage recommendations, top sights and attractions, and insights into the brand’s offerings. The itinerary, curated by local insiders, features nostalgic excursions to Kyoto’s old towns of Kinosaki and Izushi, visits to the flower fields and wineries of Hiroshima’s Sera, and more. Accommodations will be provided at 29 newly opened hotels located near roadside stations, ideal for exploring nearby national parks and UNESCO World Heritage sites.

In return for their contributions, the ‘Road Trip Reporter’ will receive:

  • Accommodation for 30 days at Fairfield by Marriott hotels
  • Daily meals showcasing Japan’s diverse flavors
  • Round-trip airfare
  • A curated itinerary of experiences
  • A self-drive car with reclaimable petrol fees
  • A project fee of US$5,000 for content development and visual assets

Applications are open from July 15 to August 15, 2024. Interested candidates must submit a recent travel story (up to 500 words) with accompanying visuals, a one-liner on their motivation to become the ‘Road Trip Reporter’, links to their blog or social media pages, and personal details including name, age, country of origin, and driving permit confirmation. The opportunity is open to English and/or Japanese language writers over 18 years old.
