The Foodie Holiday

Most of us who love good food make eating well and experiencing new restaurants a priority on our vacation. So why not actually build an entire vacation around food? Trust me you’ll be glad you did.

The South Beach Food and Wine Festival is one of the premiere foodie events in North America.

This comes up every March and is one of the most incredible journeys of food I have ever participated in. The event is slick, sexy and sassy, just like the city itself. The festival takes place right in the heart of South Beach so the location matches the vibe.

Tickets are not cheap, but the food and wine are plentiful. Hotels get very busy so it helps to plan ahead on this one. My best advic is to try and stay right on the beach in South Beach if at all possible because that’s where all the buzz happens. Some of the larger hotels in town also host events in the evening which gives you even more options on how to top off your day.

As you enter everyone receives their own glass to hang around their neck so that you can sample the wine and cocktails throughout the day. I have found the food and wine exhibitors here are quite free with their products and very open to to showcasing their food in the best way possible.

I performed there a few years ago for President Cheese and they put on a stand of unlimited free camembert and their favorite delights. It was quite an investment. During the show there were also excellent stands with sushi ceviche and so much more. There are sweet treats, savory and sauces to tempt any palate.

During the show there are live demos with Celebrity Chefs and even a VIP area that does an even more spectacular  spread.

Take your flip-flops off and walk barefoot. It’s all done in the sand right on the beach. It is a brilliant affair that’s done very well and so it’s worth planning a trip around. But if Miami isn’t in your travel plans there are still plenty more foodie festivals. The New York Food and Wine Show is always great, there is a foodie celebration this month in the Caribbean and never forget the granddaddy of them all, the Hong Kong Wine and Dine Show.

So travel well, eat well and live…. Well!
