We got to thinking about our unnatural obsession with drinking cocktails on a patio in the summer, and this led us to remember how great patio culture is in Brazil. And of course, there the Caipirinha rules.
So we bring you one of the world’s great recipes for the Caipirinha; a drink that’s something of a national treasure in Brazil.
The best versions are simply made with Cachaça, sugar and lime. Cachaça is distilled from straight cane juice so it’s sharp and packs a wallop. Watch out.
If you don’t have Brazil in your travel plans at least you you can enjoy a taste of this exciting country with an icy cold tart and sweet Caipirinha.
Ingredients
Half a lime, cut into wedges
2 oz Cachaça
1 Cube brown sugar,
Crushed ice
Directions
Cut the lime into wedges, and muddle the wedges in a shaker with brown sugar. Add Cachaça and top it with ice. Stir and pour the mixture into a rock glass. Garnish it with a slice of lime and serve.
That’s it, authentic, sexy and invigorating, the Caipirinha reflects the best of Brazil in every glass.
