For centuries, Cambodia’s name has been linked with mystery and adventure — from Angkor, the seat of the Khmer empire and one of Asia’s most important civilizations, to Phnom Penh, a modern royal capital alive with markets, river views, and palace spires.
Raffles Hotel Le Royal in Phnom Penh and Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor in Siem Reap — both in their ninth decade — are among the country’s most storied addresses. Together, they now offer a week-long itinerary called “A Tale of Two Cities”, designed to immerse guests in the history, architecture, and culture of both destinations.
From sunrise over Angkor Wat to tea with Cambodian royalty every moment is like stepping into a living history book.
The journey begins in Phnom Penh at Raffles Hotel Le Royal, which first opened in 1929. Its architecture blends French colonial, Khmer, and Art Deco influences, with spacious rooms and suites. Upon arrival, guests are introduced to their Raffles Butler, who assists with excursions and hotel activities. A Resident Historian is also available to share the hotel’s legacy.

Over the next two days, guests tour the Royal Palace of Cambodia with the official biographer of the country’s royal house. At the National Museum of Cambodia, home to the world’s most significant collection of Khmer sculpture, the museum’s lead curator provides a private introduction. One afternoon is reserved for tea with Her Highness Princess Chansita Norodom.
The Phnom Penh segment also includes local culinary activities, an architectural tour, and a five-course Khmer fine-dining and wine pairing at Restaurant Le Royal, highlighting contemporary Cambodian gastronomy.
On Day Four, guests travel by private helicopter to Siem Reap and check in at Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor, a 1930s French Art Deco property. Their Raffles Butler greets them and escorts them to a poolside suite or royal villa.
In Siem Reap, the itinerary focuses on the temples of Angkor, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Guests explore Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Prohm, and lesser-known temples by Vespa scooter. The following morning begins with sunrise at Angkor Wat, followed by further temple visits, a local art gallery, and the floating village of Chong Kneas on Tonle Sap Lake, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake. Dinner is at 1932, the hotel’s Khmer restaurant.

The program also includes a trip to Banteay Srei, renowned for its intricate carvings, a visit to a dance school under royal patronage, and a stop at Kulen National Park to see the last remaining elephants of Angkor. One evening features a torch-lit temple dinner inside Angkor Archaeological Park.
On the final morning, guests take a hot-air balloon ride over the temples and the surrounding countryside dotted with sugar palm trees — a farewell view of the landscapes that have defined the journey.
The package is part of Raffles’ global “The Butler Did It” campaign, which offers signature experiences across five continents, all centered on the brand’s personalized butler service, a tradition since 1887.
Booking requires at least two months’ notice. Seasonal changes, royal duties, and the availability of hosts may affect specific elements. Pricing is available on request.
