The State Of Global Airports In June

The world’s airline industry is still in post-pandemic state of chaos. So we’ve turned to OAG to find out which airports are busiest and seem to be handling the demand and volume.

The Top 10 Busiest Global Airports in the World are calculated using total airline capacity (domestic and international flights). The Top 10 Busiest International Airports are calculated using international airline capacity only.  The data is updated each month.

Busiest Global Airport in the World – June 2022

In June’s World’s Busiest Airports there has been more stability in the rankings compared to last month. The Top 4 Airports have stayed the same as last month with Atlanta being the largest airport, Dallas Fort Worth in second position, London Heathrow in third and Chicago O’Hare in fourth.

In 2019 Atlanta was the largest airport as well, Dallas Fort Worth was tenth, London Heathrow was seventh and Chicago O’Hare was fifth. Istanbul Airport has moved up three places to be the fifth busiest airport this month with an increase in seats of 5% compared to last month. In 2019 Istanbul was in thirteenth place. Dubai International has dropped out of the Top 10 and Paris Charles de Gaulle has moved up into tenth position.

Guangzhou has continued to drop in the rankings this month to 16th place from being the 4th busiest airport in March 2022, 10th busiest in April and 13th busiest in May. This is as a result of ongoing restrictions in China.

Out of the Top 10 Busiest Airports in June 2022, seven were in the Top 10 in June 2019.

Busiest International Airport in the World – June 2022

The Top 10 Busiest International Airports for this month are very similar to last month, the only change is in tenth position where Dublin has dropped out of the Top 10 and Singapore Changi Airport has moved up into tenth position. London Heathrow is the busiest Airport, Dubai International is in second place, Amsterdam is in third, Paris Charles de Gaulle in fourth and Frankfurt International in fifth.

Out of the Top 10 Busiest International Airports in June 2022, 7 were in the Top 10 in June 2019 as well.

Busiest European Airport in the World – June 2022

In Western Europe, the Top 10 Busiest Airports are the same as last month but in slightly different places. London Heathrow continues to be the busiest airport for this month, it was also the busiest in June 2019. Istanbul continues to be the second busiest and Paris Charles De Gaulle has moved up one place to be the third. Paris Charles de Gaulle was also third busiest airport from Western Europe in 2019. Amsterdam has dropped one place into fourth position and Frankfurt is fifth. Palma de Mallorca is in ninth place having moved into the Top 10 last month from 18th place in April 2022.

Out of the Top 10 Busiest International Airports from Western Europe in June 2022, nine were in the Top 10 in June 2019.
