Put out the Red Light

The gentleman suitor in Sting’s classic hit Roxanne would be impressed with the way that Copenhagen has changed over the years. This once seamy and seedy seaside town has changed a lot. Gone are the days when prostitution was underground or dirty. A combination of progressive policies and years of economic progress have turned Copenhagen into a liberal and livable city which has helped to change the very fiber of its being. And it’s also helped to change the old-style sex trade of days gone by.

To get a sense at just how much the city has gentrified we took a local-led tour that uncovers the best of Copenhagen’s once-seedy Vesterbro neighbourhood. On the tour you see how a people, a city and an industry have changed. The residents are happy and it now makes a good tourist attraction, so I guess everyone wins.
